The Ultimate Smoothie Recipe List
So, here it is: my first blog post that is unrelated to making clothing and accessories! I love DIY fashion, but I realized that with my site traffic being as high as it is, I have a potential to share so much more useful information with the world of DIYers out there! Why stop at just clothing? I’m going to start sharing recipes with you guys every now and then, because making your own meals is important for maintaining a healthy lifestyle! Even if you aren’t a chef or a cook, all of my recipes will be easy to learn and follow, I promise!! After all, I’m just a college aged girl living on her own… So if I can make this stuff, so can you!
I’m one of those people who “diets” every now and then simply because I feel unhealthy – not necessarily to lose weight. Because of this, I’ve become addicted to smoothies! Smoothies are healthy, super yummy, and by-far the easiest thing in the world to make. I asked for a Magic Bullet for Christmas during my freshman year of college in hopes that my breakfasts would be faster, and I could eat healthier. I’m proud to say that my magic little kitchen appliance has not been thrown to the back of the cupboard with my waffle iron and other barely-seen food prep items! I still use this thing every now and then to make smoothies for breakfast, or an afternoon snack.
Enough about my kitchen appliances though, let’s dive into some smoothie basics!
When making smoothies, there are some essential ingredients that you will need to keep stocked up. These are base ingredients that help make smoothies, well… smooth! They also help with thickening, sweetening, and adding nutritional benefits to your beverage.
Personally, I don’t have many dietary restrictions, so I can’t speak for what you would replace these items with if you do. If anyone has other ideas of things they use in their smoothies, please leave a comment below! I’d love to credit you and add it to my list!
- Milk (any fat % will work)
- Juice (I like cranberry, but apple is also great!)
- Coconut milk
- Yogurt (Regular or Greek)
- Peanut Butter
- Oatmeal (Cooked or uncooked)
- Ice Cubes
- Sugar (Not recommended! Makes your healthy snack into a sugary, bad-for-you dessert!)
- Agave Nectar
- Protein Powder (any flavor)
- Ginger Root
- Coconut Oil
- A Variety of Seeds (Flaxseed, Chia Seeds, etc.)
- Any Vitamin Powder (buy a multi-vitamin in capsule form and pour out powder into smoothie… Great if you can’t/don’t like taking pills!)
- Cocoa Powder
- Vanilla Extract
All of these ingredients (and this isn’t all of them!) can be combined to create healthy, nutritional smoothies that can be enjoyed anytime of the day/year! You can experiment with all kinds of yummy ingredients like fruit, veggies, and more to create all kinds of delicious recipes.
